Ceremony Details
This week, we’ve had some really interesting conversations about ceremonies—especially the unique touches our couples love to include to make their day extra special. With so many options to choose from, here are a few tips to help you decide what works best for you.
Know Your Options
There are so many meaningful ceremony details to consider! While traditional choices are always beautiful, there are also some more unusual options that might suit you better. Some popular choices include:
Quaich ceremonies
Handfasting
Sand pouring
Oathing stones
Unity candles
We also love the idea of a ring warming/blessing, and jumping the broom is a really fun way to finish your ceremony!
Celebrate Your Celebrant
Your celebrant has a wealth of knowledge and can suggest elements that fit your style and circumstances. For example, a sand ceremony is a lovely way to involve children or family members. Once you’ve chosen your special touches, chat with your celebrant about how they’ll be incorporated and what you’ll need to provide.
Make It Your Own
There’s always room for creativity! Your quaich could hold gin, wine, or even Diet Coke. Handfasting ribbons can be replaced with braided rope, tartan, or even flags representing your heritage. Small personal touches can make these traditions feel even more meaningful.
Check Your Ceremony Space
Your venue might have certain restrictions—common ones include candles and alcohol. A simple workaround is using battery-powered candles or checking if the venue can provide whisky for the quaich. Always double-check with your venue before making a final decision!
Be Prepared
To keep things running smoothly, ask the same person who’s looking after your rings to also take care of any special ceremony items. They can ensure everything is set up beforehand and collected afterward, so you don’t lose any precious keepsakes!
